Instructor: Nicole Fox

This course invites students to examine critically the broad spectrum of injustice in the world while gaining an understanding of how the New England area is working to combat these injustices. For the first three weeks we will be analyzing injustice on the individual, local and global levels. This will include three specific forms of injustice: structural and economic, environmental injustice and political violence such as genocide. This class will meet twice a week with the first day of the week including lectures, films and engaging discussions on the broader issue at large. The second day of the week will include a guest speaker from the greater Boston area that will discuss the ways in which our community is working to combat injustice. During the last two weeks of the course we will be analyzing violence prevention and treatment models, theories on nonviolence/pacifism and how communities recover from times of injustice. This course is especially pertinent in times of massive unemployment and global conflict and aims to understand these troubled times within a local context for solutions.
